When sixteen-year old Kay Runyan stands before a minister and exchanges wedding vows with her teenage boyfriend, she believes her marriage will provide an escape from poverty, sexual abuse and an unhappy home life. She soon realizes her mistake.
Fearing the disapproval of her fundamentalist Southern Baptist parents, she hides the pain of her troubled marriage until she can no longer bear it. After coming to terms with the choices she has made, Kay finds the strength to create a life for herself that she never thought possible.
Choices is the story of a woman whose journey takes her from humble beginnings in East Texas in the 1940s, to traveling the world to shine light on the challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia and learning disabilities.

Dr. Runyan had a practice for many years in San Francisco, California focusing on students and adults with learning disabilities and Attention Deficit Disorder. She completed ground breaking research on why these individuals were entitled to accommodations at the university level.
Semi-retired and living with her dog Sophie in Eugene, Oregon, Dr. Runyan enjoys consulting, writing, reading, hiking, golf and her grandchildren.
